Jeopardized!
Besides books, Dionne and I share a passion for computer games. Though we’re not (yet) into fast-paced, arcade-type games, we prefer playing long-term strategy games. One such game is Civilization III. We’d share stories of our conquests and wars that we’ve won… But those were still at the Chieftain mode (read: EASIEST). Only recently, we have been trying to break into the next level, Warlord. I have only been successful once. Most other games, I’d get frustrated in the middle of the game, when the computer starts to overtake me, especially in scientific breakthroughs.
Another game that we both like is Sims… Dionne has been asking me, for a long time now, to get us a copy of Sims 2. The original version costs more than 1k, while the “local” copy costs around 350 (for 4 CDs). I don’t want to pay 350 so I opted to download a copy instead. I estimate that it’ll be done in 1 to 2 weeks. Do remember: patience is a virtue…. =)
And then there are the trivia games… Last year, we spent some time going crazy over You Don’t Know Jack. Version 3, I think. The game is simply outrageous, especially the energetic voice-over. Who would pass a chance on “screwing” their opponent? =P
Yesterday, we played an old favorite, Jeopardy. Playing the game reveals our interests and intimacies. I can say that I’m pretty good at the science and mathematics categories, while all others belong to Dionne… Hehe.
Among the 4 games between us, Dionne has won 3 of them, the last 2 being come-from-behind victories. I would be leading by some supposedly “comfortable” amount, and then Dionne breaks away via the Final Jeopardy.
First game, Dionne was at 1650 (the 50 coming from Daily Double, answer being “Masons”) while I was at 3100. Final Jeopardy category: Pop Music. I didn’t know how much she wagered so I just wagered a “safe” 500.
The question: In (some year), Babyface tied this artist’s record for most number of Grammy nominations (or was it wins?) in 1983, at 13 each… What came to my mind was the blind guy with long locks playing the piano, singing “Ebony and Ivory”. I thought he was that successful… Unfortunately, I was wrong (my score: down to 2600). Dionne was right, it was Michael Jackson. Dang! How could I forget Bad! And she wagered 1000!! She won by 50 dollars. The 50 that I helped her get! Hmp!
Entering the last round of the next game, I was at 2000, Dionne was at 1600. Category was Rock and Postal. Huh?? I wagered a “safer” 100. The question, something like: In was debated, which of his pictures, young or old, would be used in the stamps to be printed. Hmm, I wondered, which rockstar would be that famous to be printed in stamps… It dawned on me that the answer was quite simple. It’s Elvis Presley. I hoped Dionne didn’t get the answer… And then I saw that we had the same answer. And indeed it was Elvis. Her wager? Another 1000! Score another win for her. Hmp-hmp!
Just kidding. =)
Maybe I’ll just challenge her to NBA Live 2006 next time. Hehe! I learned last week that the PC version is now out. Now, if only I can get a copy… Via YouSendIt would be fine. Nuninu. ;)

you forgot to mention I also kicked your a** in risk, scattergories, uno madness. haha!
mwah @ joven! =)
i'm also a sims fanatic..meron akong sims 2 installers kaso di ko alam kung san napunta..baka na kay paul..if ever i find it, i can lend it for you to burn. The best ang sims 2 lalo na pag nagtra-try silang mag-make ng baby hahah! Katawa kasi magmomorning sickness din ang girl tapos mamaya bigla na lang uumbok ang tiyan hehe!
Btw, dionne, i bought my shoes at landmark..rosanna pena ang tatak. There are shoes na comfy sa paa kaso konti lang ang pagpipilian. Anyhow, mura naman.
mai! OMG! sims 2! wow! gash! na-excite naman ako. puro exclamation point na tuloy ako. hehe!
i'm thinking of not splurging on the shoes since di naman sha kita and one time use lang naman. gusto ko sana custom made nung una pero parang nagbabago na isip ko. sige, i'll visit landmark and try to look for rosanna pena. thanks for the tip! =)
agree! ako din i didn't set much budget on my shoes with the same reason as yours. Pero siyempre important dapat comfortable ka with it. I thought mura na ang 799 dinaig ako ni jacque..600-700 ata yung shoes niya.
hello joven and dionne! we love sims 2 too! the last time i played was before i started preparing for the wedding. as in big eyebugs became a part of my face. i started playing playboy mansion for a while, ala lang time. nakakatuwa coz naughty yung game but not as exciting as the sims.
